Gender Differences in Assessing Local Well-Being is a new research article by the Rating Lab team. The paper is based on the Second Annual Top of Regions ranked by the Local Well-Being Index! The study, conducted by the Rating Sociological Group as part of the World Mental Health Survey Initiative, shows that civilians who experienced armed conflicts at a young age suffer significant psychological disorders years, and sometimes decades, later. Identifying the specific mechanisms linking these childhood experiences to long-term health problems is crucial for designing effective interventions and policies.

Recently, at the event “Reintegration and Support of Ukrainian Veterans” in Washington, crucial and painful issues about the future of Ukrainian veterans were discussed. Serhiy Volynskyi (Major of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, defender of Mariupol, Hero of Ukraine) presented Ukraine’s first unique in-depth study on veterans’ adaptation problems, conducted by the Rating Lab Research Laboratory on behalf of the Stalevi Foundation.

Recently, the results of the study "Barriers and Stereotypes: Why Do People Avoid Psychological Help?" were presented at American University Kyiv. The study was conducted by Rating Lab in collaboration with the Behavioral Research Institute, AUK. The new ZOiS report examines the ethical research challenges that have arisen or intensified since the start of the war, their impact on research, and how researchers and members of the ZOiS Ethics Committee deal with them. Tatiana Skrypchenko, Deputy Director of the Rating Group and Research Fellow of the Ukrainian Research Network at ZOiS, contributed to this report.
One of the authors of the mine safety test, Svitlana Roiz, said: “The children who have parents talking to them at home, who attended mine awareness courses in schools, who watched cartoons about Patron the Dog or read some comics, show less risky behavior.”

Child and family psychologist Svitlana Roiz worked as part of a group of professional child psychologists and experts in social and behavioral changes at UNICEF. The research laboratory Rating Lab developed an original test on the knowledge of mine safety rules and the identification of potentially dangerous behavior for children aged 10-17.

A study conducted by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Rating Group on explosive ordnance risk awareness and safe behaviour practices among Ukrainian parents and children aged 10 to 17 has revealed that boys aged 14 to 17 (62 per cent) and adolescents from rural areas and low-income families demonstrate the riskiest behaviours. Despite 97 per cent of adolescents surveyed claiming to be aware of mine safety rules, risky behaviour remains prevalent. The study, conducted by UNICEF and the Rating Group research company as part of European Union (EU) humanitarian assistance, took place from March to April 2024 across 27 areas contaminated by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
Most people perceive male refugees from Ukraine very negatively, especially those who left during the war.
